Shiba Inu

The smallest and oldest of the Japanese dog breeds, the Shiba Inu was bred for many centuries as a highly skilled hunting dog. Although the breed cam close to extinction during WWII, this is now the most popular native breed in Japan.

Agile, lively, and intelligent, Shiba Inus are affectionate pets for experienced and patient owners. They sometimes demonstrate aggression toward other dogs and tend to be aloof with strangers, but they are very devoted to those they know.
Appearance
Shibas are striking dogs with thick double coats in shades of red, fawn, brindle, black, black-and-tan, and white. They are sturdy animals with muscular bodies, deep chests, and powerful legs. The head is a triangular shape, with the characteristic pointed Spitz muzzle, dark triangular eyes, and small, pointed, erect ears that are set high. The thick tail is carried curled over the back.

Things to Consider
These dogs are better off with experienced owners.
Newly developed teeth may pose problems.
Intensive training to correct dominant and sometimes aggressive behavior is required.
